ลักษณะทั่วไป
แมลงตดBombardier
Beetle เป็นแมลงปีกแข็งชนิดหนึ่งจำพวกเดียวกันกับด้วงดิน ลำตัวยาวประมาณสองเซนติเมตร
กว้างประมาณห้าถึงแปดมิลลิเมตร ชนิดที่พบในประเทศไทยมีสองชนิด คือ Pherosophus javanus และ Pherosophus occipitalis
โดยสารพิษของแมลงตดมีคุณสมบัติเป็นกรด ประกอบด้วย ไฮโดรควินโนน และ ไฮโดรเจนเปอร์ออกไซด์
เมื่อเจอศัตรูคุกคาม หรือเพื่อจับเหยื่อเป็นอาหารแมลงตดจะพ่นสารพิษอันตรายนี้เข้าใส่เป้าหมาย
ทำให้สัตว์ที่เป็นเป้าหมายขนาดเล็กตายได้ และเมื่อโดนผิวหนัง เช่น
ผิวหนังมนุษย์จะทำให้เกิดรอยไหม้ ปวดแสบปวดร้อน หากโดนเข้าที่ดวงตาอาจทำให้ตาบอดได้(เพราะฉะนั้นเด็กๆไม่ควรไปยุ่งกับแมลงตดนะครับ

แมลงตดอาศัยอยู่บนบก
ตามริมน้ำ แอ่งน้ำ ซุกซ่อนตัวอยู่ตามใบไม้ กิ่งไม้ เปลือกไม้แห้ง กินแมลงชนิดอื่นๆ

General characteristics
Bombardier Beetle is a scarab of the same species as
the ground beetle. The body is about two centimeters long. The width is about
five to eight millimeters. There are two types of species found in Thailand:
Pherosophus javanus and Pherosophus occipitalis. Acid insecticides include
